Adding social media profile links to your Google Business profile just got a lot easier thanks to Google’s new “Add Social Profiles” feature in Google Business.
For those that have tried (and failed) to get social profile links to appear on their Google Business listing, this new feature will come as a welcome relief.
Announced in mid-August 2023, the new feature will take some time to roll out across all industries and regions. Some users, however, may have already noticed the new feature appearing in their Google Business listing.
Which social media profile links can I add to Google business?
As of August 2023, the following profiles can be added and are eligible to appear as social links from a Google Business property.
- TikTok
- Twitter (now X)
- YouTube
In spite of the ability to “add” social media profiles to Google Business being a new feature, these are the same profiles that were previously eligible to appear as social links from a Google business listing profile.
How to add social media profile links to Google business – August 2023 new feature
Step 1: Log into your Google Account
Step 2: Click “Edit Profile”
Step 3: Click “Business Information”
Step 4: Click “Contact”
Step 5: From the drop-down menu, select the social profile that you would like to add
Step 6: Insert the link to your relevant social profile (use the specific URL of your social link property)
Step 7: Click “Save”
Note: Please note that steps 5 onwards will only be available and visible to businesses that have had this featured added.
How to edit social media links on Google business – August 2023 new feature
Step 1: Log into your Google Account
Step 2: Click “Edit Profile”
Step 3: Click “Business Information”
Step 4: Click “Contact”
Step 5: Choose the social media profile that you would like to edit
Step 6: Update the social media profile URL address
Note: Please note that, like adding a new social media profile link, this feature is once again only available to those that have this option enabled.
Can I remove social links from my Google Business listing?
Yes. If the new social media link editing feature is available to you in Google Business, simply remove the property using the same steps as above and click “Save”.
What if the option does not appear in my Google Business listing?
According to Google, this will be a gradual roll out across different regions and industries. There is no word around who will have the feature added first (geographically or industry), however, if the feature is not available to you, then you’ll just need to bide your time until the option appears.
As before, it is believed that Google can still use the normal signals (external links from your website, structured data, etc.) to make the same connections, however, this feature will make things infinitely easier – particularly those responsible for managing multiple Google Business listings.
