Google has announced that the June 2025 Core Algorithm Update is now live and may take up to three weeks to finish rolling out.
Confirmed via the Google Search Status Dashboard at 7:34 AM PDT, this latest update marks the first algorithm update since the March Core Update.
We received the following brief update on the Google Search Central Twitter/X account:
Today we released the June 2025 core update. We’ll update our ranking release history page when the rollout is complete: https://t.co/bOclYyVtYH

And a slightly more insightful update on the Google Search Central LinkedIn account:

What to expect
We don’t have a lot to go off at this stage other than the following statement from the LinkedIn announcement:
This is a regular update designed to better surface relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of sites.
If this is your first Core Update, then don’t be too surprised – Google tends to be pretty vague about what exactly is being targeted in a Core Algorithm update. In some cases, an algorithm update is launched to specifically target certain practices that may relate to content, links, or other specific facets of ranking signals. However, from the little information that we have to go off, Google’s June 2025 Core Algorithm Update is likely to be a “traditional” algorithm update that rewards high-quality content.
What we are seeing so far
It’s still early days, but we are not seeing any huge fluctuations at this stage. Whilst Google has said that the update will take around three weeks to roll out, we do tend to find the first few days after an announcement are the most volatile.

Of course, we are only a few hours in at this point, but it’s worth keeping an eye on third party tools like SEMrush Sensor to get a better sense of what is happening across the board.
How core updates work
Core updates typically happen 3-4 times each year. The June 2025 Core Algorithm Update is the first update since March and means that we are right about on track to see four updates this year.
A core update affects all websites in all languages and regions. During a core update, Google will make changes to its ranking systems that are used to generate search results. Changes to the rankings systems can be seen by the end user as changes to the results that are presented in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
- Core updates typically happen 3-4 times each year
- Updates affect all sites in all niches, regions, and languages
- Changes to your site traffic does not mean you have been “penalised”, instead, it is typically a result of changes to Google’s ranking systems.
- Core algorithm updates can take weeks to roll out (three in this case), however, we usually find the first few days to be the most volatile.
- Core updates are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of search results and deliver the best user experience.
What should I do now?
Wait and monitor.
We strongly advise against any “reactionary” behaviour during a core algorithm update. Give the update time to roll out and see where the ball lands. If you are making changes through the update, it can be difficult to pinpoint cause and effect. We recommend monitoring changes to rankings and search visibility throughout the update before drawing any conclusions about what has changed.
